Walk for Shoes
Apr 23 - Huntington, WV
A barefoot walk to raise awareness and money for those who do not have shoes! Changing the world, 1 mile at a time.
I am the president of Marshall University's Darfur club, and we do a "barefoot week" each semester to raise money for shoes for the refugees, so when I heard about this, I couldn't help but get incredibly excited! I love organizing and planning events and have a huge passion for social justice activisim--especially for issues in Africa. I actually got the oppourtunity to spend 2 months in Swaziland last summer and saw first-hand the disadvantages to not having shoes. I am insipired in so many facets to bring this walk to my community, and it appears I have a lot of people who would love to help me with it! I want this walk to attract youth, adults, churches, fellow students, and any and everyone in the tri-state area. I plan on getting donations, a grant to pay for the picnic shelter and other things, and t-shirts made. I also plan to have live music. I feel very confident this will be a great, beneficial event to all those who participate!
