General Walk Questions
Is TakeTheWalk.net a registered charity or connected to a registered 501(c) charity?
Yes
Will the names on the walker's forms be viewed by any individuals other than your staff?
No, only our staff will see the names.
Do you have a MySpace?
Yes we do! It's here. Be sure to friend us and we'd appreciate being listed in your topfriends.
I want to buy a pair of TOMS, but not the Great Divide ones. If I buy a different pair at TOMS website, can TTW get credit for the sale?
Only the Great Divide Edition shoes will count for TakeTheWalk.net; however, TOMS is a great organization and every pair of shoes you buy on their site will also provide a pair for a child in need.
Will the Great Divide shoes ever be available in toddler sizes?
At this time there are no plans to offer toddler sizes.
I participated in one of HANSON's walks about a month ago, but I didn't hang around to fill out the registration card. Can I register my mile now?
Unfortunately, no.
Will walker's names be posted anywhere online?
No, there are no plans to post walker's names online.
I have a question about my order. What information do you need?
Email shipping@takethewalk.net with your full name, order number, last 4 digits of your credit card, the email you used when placing the order and your question.
Instead of 1 mile, we want our walk to be 5 miles. Will HANSON give a $1 for each extra mile?
Sorry, no. HANSON will donate $1 only for the first mile walked.
How do I know if a walk is already scheduled in my area?
Look at the Find A Walk page. You'll find official HANSON walks and hosted walkslisted by date. You might also check the Take The Walk forums located on Hanson.net as potential hosts often post there before registering a walk.
Does everyone have to walk barefoot in order to count?
While we encourage everyone to walk barefoot so you can fully understand what having no shoes is like, we understand that not everyone is able to walk barefoot. The mile someone walks with shoes or sock feet will still count.
I want to donate, but I don't want to give my CC information over the internet. Is there an address I can send a check to?
You may send donations by check/money order to:
Hope From The Heartland, Inc
209 N. Main St
Tulsa, OK 74103
I want to exchange an item. How do I do that?
Please refer to the Return Policy.
Will Take The Walk continue after the goal of 24902 miles is reached?
Yes!
Is it ok for children to participate in a walk?
Yes, children can participate!
Because of the dangers to children, do they have to list their full names on the walker's forms? If a parent doesn't feel comfortable with listing a child's full name, then a first name will be fine.
How do I figure out what size of TOMS will fit me best?
Go to TOMS website, TOMS Shoes, and use their sizing information to get the best fit.
I want to donate, but I want to use PayPal. Is that possible?
Yes. You can donate through PayPal using the donation widget found on Hanson's MySpace.
Hosting A Walk/Advice to Hosts
My walk hasn't been approved and it's been a week. Who do I contact?
Please email takethewalk@hanson.net Be sure to include your name as well as the date/location of your walk in the email
How long should I plan before I host my walk?
We recommend a minimum of 3 weeks, but some of our most successful hosts recommend 4 - 6 weeks.
Is there a TV ad available a host can take to local TV stations?
Sorry, not at this time
If I want to host multiple walks, do I need a separate kit for each walk?
Yes, we ask that you purchase a separate kit for each walk you host.
Where do you send the walker's forms when they are completed?
TakeTheWalk.net
209 N. Main St
Tulsa, OK 74103
Do I need a permit to host a walk?
You will need to check with your local city hall or other government office to ask about permits. In some areas, none are needed. In others, certain streets need permits, but other areas don't. Only your local officials can answer this question.
Should I contact organizations or charities in the area about my walk?
The decision to contact other charities or organizations is up to you. You might wish to contact local AIDS organizations or other organizations devoted to African charities. They may wish to help with your walk or at least attend.
How do I choose a location?
You will need a place where you can walk a mile. Some possible locations are city streets, school tracks or public parks. Choose a place you know fairly well or is popular in your area. Make the place easy to get to with lots of parking.
Why do hosts have to include a contact name and email in their walk
description?
Participants need a way to contact the walk host. They may have questions about the location, times or other activities that only a host can answer.
If I host a walk, will Hanson come?
No, the band can not attend hosted walks.
I'd like to talk with other hosts. Is there a place to do that?
Go to Hanson.net and check out the Take The Walk forum. It's public, but you will need to register in order to post.
How do you get the word out?
Tell everyone you know. Tell your family and friends first and ask them to help you spread the word. Tell co-workers or schoolmates.
If you are part of an organization or church, tell everyone. Many organizations, especially churches, have weekly newsletters. Ask if you can include news of your walk. Check with local TV and cable stations. Some stations have a special place to list free events. Ask your local newspaper if there is a charge for advertising a charity event.
If you have a website or blog, post about your walk there. Use your email to tell people about your walk and also add a signature about it. Email everyone who seemed interested in your walk a reminder a day or 2 before the actual walk. That way it's fresh in their minds and they are more likely to attend.
Is there a video available a host can use to show to a group?
Sorry, not at this time.
If the walker's form download won't work for me, where can I get a copy?
Email takethewalk@hanson.net and a copy will be emailed to you.
Is there a TV ad available a host can take to local TV stations?
Sorry, not at this time.
I want to host a walk in my city the day before Hanson comes to do a concert. Is that possible?
We request that you do not schedule a walk for 2 - 3 weeks after a Hanson appearance in your city.
Someone scheduled a walk in my city on Saturday and I planned to have my walk on Sunday. Will you approve both walks?
No. Whichever walk was submitted first will most likely be the one approved. The second host would be asked to reschedule
